Democracy?
In the short history of our XXIst century, doubts about the democratic project are on the increase.
Can democracy equitably protect the world's population from a pandemic? Can democracy promote global peace and demilitarisation? Can democracy be fair and impartial in its international relations and migratory movements? Can democracy prevent the growth of far-right movements? Can democracy solve the climate crisis? Can democracy doubt itself?
We have learnt that the answer to all these questions is 'yes'. But the doubts remain.
Delilah's story is told - an imaginary person tailored to each listener - who problematises global reality by looking at contemporary democracy and its historical formation through a critical lens.
Deepening awareness of alienation (Paulo Freire) as a human condition - and the need for liberation from it to produce and announce utopias - the participants in this session are brought into dialogue with their allegiances, their discomforts, their doubts and their imagined alternatives for a society in multiple crises.
This story was used iteratively throughout developing and consolidating IAU as a methodology.
